What console video games are good for a new female player?

Specifically, my wife. She enjoys tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, but she isn't exclusively interested in RPGs on console. She enjoyed Legend of Dragoon very much, but is having trouble with Star Ocean 2.

Her biggest gripe about console games is complex controls (she's most familiar with the old simple NES controls, and hates having to enter button combinations to do things as a result). She also dislikes unresponsive or touchy controls, and gave up on Mario Sunshine as a result.

She mostly wants entertainment that she "doesn't have to think hard about how to play it to actually play it".

She's enjoyed the Sims / Sims2, but she's played it out. Besides that, she's fairly tomboy, and isn't interested in anything Barbie or My Little Pony.

Any ideas out there?

What are some video games GIRLS actually want to play?

I'm a 14 year old girl. I have a Ps3, but I can't seem too find any good games.
I don't want a puzzle game or some mind-thing.
I also don't want to hear about Call of Duty and Halo.

And just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I want to play barbie, I just want a fun game that isn't all shooting and what-not, although I admit, Grand Theft Auto keeps me entertained for hours.

How do you feel about the reaction to violent video games by Jack Thompson and other people??!!?

Now, I've asked a question like this. And some of you answerers may be wondering "WTF is Jack Thompson?"
Well, in highly censored descriptions: this is Jack Thompson.

Jack Thompson is an evil drug dealing attorney. He like to play with sheep and eat paint chips. He likes to make gamers mad by saying that all video games are violent. He likes to whine about how the only game he played (Barbie's Horse Adventure) is violent because Barbie gets struck by a log.
He hates video games: he hates GTA because of it's violence. He is the village idiot who says that video games cause violence. He said that "BULLY: Canum Canis Edit" was supposed to be racist, anti-authority driven, violent and to cause children to turn into massive violent drooling poop babies. That was a gross misunderstanding.

And then there's GTA: he hated GTA III because you killed cops. Well, Mr. Thompson, if you weren't such an ignorant baby, you would know that this is GTA III! There have been 2 other games with this
IF you hadn't been with that sheep last night in that club, you'd know that. Plus, he thinks Rockstar purposely put in the Hot Coffee mod. They didn't. GET YOUR STORY STRAIGHT, JACKY.
Now, he hates bully because of its name and promotional images of giving a black student a swirly. And stuff about bludgeoning teachers. He said it would cause an upspike in in-school violence, BLA BLA BLA. Well, it didn't. If you weren't ignorant to find this out, MR. THOMPSON, and if you HAD been on the Internet, you would've noticed two things:

They keep repeating to you over and over that their baby needs diapers until you finally give in and buy those diapers.

For the little girls, there are a lot of toys that make their list every year. Many of them surround such figures as Barbie, Bratz dolls, dolls that drink and "do their business" all on their own, and stuffed animals that look real and sound real. The list can go on and on, but there are some toy items that little girls have always loved and will continue to love, even through until Christmas 2008.

Amongst those items are doll houses. They love doll houses, especially when they have interactive features with them. They also love it when the dollhouse is large enough for them to put new furniture in and allow other dolls to move in. They love it when they are given a house that allows them to be creative.

Another thing that little girls love is kitchen sets. Throw in the doll and you have a full fledged imaginary mommy.

The girls also love video games. Whether it is the Nintendo Wii, the computer, or another game system, there are games that are made for the girls as well. Boys are not the only ones that have the privilege of enjoying video games. The girls can enjoy Mario, Barbie, and a plethora of other characters in this interactive form.
